Jandhyala made his directorial debut with 'Mudda Mandaram' (1981). Pradeep, a millionaire's son, returns from U.S.A. after his studies and falls in love with a simple flower-selling girl (Poornima) and marries her against the wishes of his father Shankar. Late Jandhyala who has left an indelible mark on Telugu film dialogues with his ingenious humor and play with words also proves his mettle as a director with this film. He strikes a fine balance in this super hit quadrangular love story between heart rending emotional scenes and some trend setting dialogue humor, which leaves the audience in Splits.

Music director duo Rajan-Nagendra had given some memorable musical score of which super his song Chinukula Raali needs special mention. This song was so popular that it was later adopted in Hindi as - Aisi deeewangee in the Sharukh Khan, Divya Bharathi starrer Deewangee.

This film also introduces the famous comedy actor duo - Suthhi Velu, Suthhi Veerabhadra Rao. Incidentally this film introduced the concept of usage of the word 'Suthhi' to mean painful and torturous buttonholing by people, which even after two decades of its invention has not lost its charm. Gopi, Krishna, Mohan, Murthy are close friends, all of who fall in love with their neighbor Seetha. They employ various tactics to try attracting her, which creates problems in their friendship. Finally, they all come to a decision to directly ask her whom she loves. She informs that she is in love with Madhu, with whom her marriage is fixed, but spoiled due to Madhu's father Gandabherundam's greed for dowry. How the four friends, with the help of Subbarao and Dumbu, teach a lesson to Gandabherundam, and make possible the marriage of Seetha and Madhu is the rest of the interestingly narrated story.
