This movie was directed by Neelakanta (Missamma fame) and produced by Manjula (Mahesh Babu's sister) starring just three actors playing the lead roles. However, it was the Telugu actor Surya who stole the show.
Released in 2002, it has bagged two national awards.
1. Best Regional movie (Telugu)
2. Best Screenplay
Plot: It tells the tale of two strangers who happened to spend few hours together in a house located in a secluded place. In order to keep themselves engaged and entertained, they decide to enact a play which doesn't go as expected.
Performances: As I mentioned earlier, Surya turned in an awesome performance. I always wondered why many directors insisted on casting Surya for such major roles (a la 'Grahanam') in spite of his not so good pronunciation of Telugu. After watching this movie, I can say that many established Telugu actors will fall flat on their face if they took up this challenging role. I think he has some Marathi theater background.
He played many dimensions of his role with ease.
1. A middle class, easy going man.
2. A henpecked husband.
3. A loving father
4. A passionate actor.
5. A disturbed individual.
Manjula was okay as an actress, her squeaky voice was disturbing.
However, she scores full points as a producer who gave us a good movie.
Direction: This guy is definitely a genius. Such a complex storyline with an almost flawless screenplay, and a brilliant execution. The psychology aspect of his movies worked wonders many times (excluding the recent Mr. Medhavi). Balachander's and Bapu's influence is evident in his style. The beauty of peacefulness, and the horror of loneliness was well portrayed by him. Dialogues written by him were beautiful and apt to the situation. They are like one of those Telugu plays that used to come on Radio.
